- industrialinfo .com - CNOOC Begins Construction of 800,000-Ton Methanol Project in Hainan: CNOOC has begun construction of a 800,000-ton-pe r-year methanol project -using gas Ledong fields, and is expected to begin production in 2010. The plant will adopt advanced Davy Process which boast: energy efficiency, a short production cycle, minimal equipment and space utilization, and high value added. The designed daily production capacity is estimated at 2,500 tons. It is expected that the energy consumed per ton to produce methanol at the new facility will be much lower compared with average medium-scale methanol facilities in China. The quality of methanol products from this unit will meet U.S. AA standards. In addition to using energy-efficie nt equipment and new insulation materials, the Davy system employs hydrogen-recyc ling, pre-transforma tion, low-pressure methanol synthesis and exhaust pressure swing absorbing technologies to reduce energy consumption. All of these features will help to reduce the facility' s energy consumption during production.
- Micro Fuel Cells Get Closer to Replacing Batteries: In a recent study, a team of researchers has developed micro-sized direct methanol fuel cells (microDMFC) that achieve significantly improved fuel efficiency and maintain a good power density while operating at room temperature. The energy density (measured in watt-hours per liter) of the new fuel cells is 385 Wh/L, which is superior to lithium ions batteries? value of 270 Wh/L. The research, led by Dr. Steve Arscott at the Institute of Electronics, Microelectroni cs and Nanotechnology (IEMN) in France, working in collaboration with SHARP Corporation in Nara, Japan, is published in a recent issue of the Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineeri ng, and a second study has been accepted to the Journal of Power Sources.

- EFOY 1600 FUEL CELL - TSW COMSAT - Mobile Satellite Systems, Motorhome, Caravan, Narrowboat |TSW-Comsat: If you use high current consuming products or an inverter to run appliances such as a microwave oven and a hair dryer, the Efoy 1600 is the right model for you. It has a maximum output of 130Ah per day giving you freedom from mains hook-up at all times. Like all Efoy units, the 1600 continously monitors a vehicle?s leisure batteries. When their voltage drops, the fuel cell automatically starts to charge them: silently, cleanly and efficiently.
